Safe and visually appealing pathways are essential in busy public environments like airports. At East Midlands Airport, several external walkways had deteriorated over time, creating unsafe conditions for passengers and staff.<\/p>

An earlier attempt by another company to replace the surfaces using alternative materials had failed, leaving the airport with a surface prone to damage and instability. MJF were tasked with restoring over 270m\u00b2 of worn-out walkways around key access points at the airport. The client required a durable, slip-resistant finish that could handle heavy foot traffic, weather exposure, while also improving the overall look of the area.<\/p>

To meet the client’s brief, MJF selected LeesonGrip 2-1 resin<\/a> paired with PERMABOUND Autumn Quartz 1-3mm<\/a> stone, both supplied by GCL Products. The resin bond system was chosen specifically for its excellent anti-slip qualities and robust performance in high-footfall environments like airports.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Resin Bond Pathway Installation<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Work began with the removal of all failing surfacing, followed by careful base preparation to ensure long-term adhesion and performance. A suitable sub-base is critical in resin bond applications to achieve a lasting result.<\/p>

Once the surface was ready, the MJF team applied LeesonGrip 2-1 resin to the area, carefully screeding it out across manageable sections. Immediately after, the PERMABOUND Autumn Quartz stone was broadcast over the resin to create the final textured finish. The team worked quickly and efficiently to ensure they followed the recommended application method.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This process was repeated across the entire 270m\u00b2 installation area. After around two hours of curing time, any excess stone was swept away to leave a clean, bonded finish ready for reopening to the public.<\/p>

Unlike resin bound systems, where the gravel and resin are mixed together, resin bond involves scattering aggregate over a tacky resin surface. This creates a textured, high-friction finish ideal for safety-critical areas such as public walkways and access ramps.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
