The surrounding areas of busy sports venues face a lot of pressure, particularly where large numbers of supporters regularly move across grassed spaces. Without suitable reinforcement, repeated foot traffic can quickly lead to worn, damaged and muddy surfaces, which increase the venue’s maintenance requirements. This makes grass protection an important consideration in high-footfall environments such as in this project:
The Project
This case study from Premier Pitches involved the installation of TurfMesh 1800 around a professional football stadium, where protecting the surrounding grassed areas had become an important consideration. The club has a number of large grass verges running alongside a road that leads directly to an entrance used by supporters attending matches, making this a busy pedestrian route throughout the football season.
With large numbers of fans passing through the area during every home game, the grass is regularly exposed to heavy footfall. Over time, repeated pedestrian traffic had contributed to wear and damage, making the area increasingly difficult to maintain.
The Installation
TurfMesh 1800 was selected to help protect the grass and provide a reinforced surface capable of handling frequent pedestrian use. Designed for demanding grass reinforcement applications, TurfMesh helps distribute pressure across the ground, protecting the grass roots below while allowing natural grass growth to continue.
Premier Pitches completed the installation across a total area of 480m² along the grass verge beside the road. The mesh was laid along the route towards the stadium entrance, providing reinforcement where significant levels of foot traffic are experienced on matchdays.

The completed installation provides a practical yet natural-looking solution for protecting the grass in this busy environment, helping the club maintain its surrounding grounds despite the regular arrival of large crowds.
