Rubber Mulch Pathways for Mini Golf Course

Project Brief: Create vibrant, soft, low-maintenance and accessible pathways around a new mini golf course

Total Project Area: 160m²

Product Used: Rubber Mulch

Designing an adventure golf course is about more than just fun, it’s about producing a lasting and inclusive experience that keeps people coming back.

Homewood Adventure Golf began with a completely blank canvas and a bold vision: to build a fully themed, immersive 18-hole course that could be enjoyed by all ages and abilities. However, to meet this goal, they needed a surfacing solution for their paths that was safe, visually appealing and accessible for all.

The Project

When Homewood Adventure Golf were tasked with constructing a new 18-hole course from the ground up, every element of the attraction, from its waterfalls to bridges and cottages to colourful landscaping, was thoughtfully planned and custom-built by the team.

To create the winding pathways that guide players through each hole, they chose PERMABOUND’s rubber mulch for its safety, durability and aesthetic flexibility. A number of blends were used; Cedar Grey, Moss Green, Sequoia and Olive Brown.

These colours were selected to complement the course’s natural surroundings while adding to the magical atmosphere. Crucially, rubber mulch was chosen not only for its visual appeal but for its ability to provide a smooth, stable surface, ensuring that the entire course remained fully accessible to everyone.

Rubber Mulch Installation

Over 160 square metres of PERMABOUND’s rubber mulch were installed across the entire site. The full process involved shaping the layout of the course from scratch and choosing which mulch blend to use around which holes.

Once the layout was decided and holes began to take shape, the team could then apply rubber mulch. Each bag of rubber mulch was mixed in a forced action mixer with a suitable resin binder before being carefully hand troweled in place. This process was repeated until the team had produced a continuous flow of paths that connected each hole on the course.

The rubber mulch pathways delivered more than just practical benefits. The bonded mulch surfaces brought a unique visual texture and depth to the course design while offering all-weather usability, reduced maintenance and a safe, slip-resistant walking surface. The Homewood team paid close attention to the edging and integration of the pathways with surrounding features to achieve the perfect, professional finish throughout.

The Outcome

The result of the installation is a fully realised 18-hole mini golf course that delivers fun, safety and function in equal measure. The paths now provide a clean and colourful route through the course, adding to the user experience and boosting the character of the landscape.

The use of PERMABOUND rubber mulch has ensured the course is not only visually engaging but also practical, safe and accessible for wheelchair users and visitors of all abilities.
