Project Brief: To create a safe playing space for the children of student parents to utilise

At Green Templeton College, nestled in the historic and esteemed Oxford University, a project was spearheaded by 3 staff members to create a play space that would support student parents to balance their study and family obligations.
The unique play area was to be installed by the onsite college gym, to allow student parents to fit short periods of play with their children around their university commitments.
"Summer 2022 saw the construction of a small play area for student families next to Green Templeton College, University of Oxford’s onsite gym. This project was made possible by Annual Fund donors.
In order to make the space safe for young children and families to use, we researched and discovered that rubber matting would be the best material for this space. We then sourced matting from GCL Products after finding them online. "
Safety was the cornerstone of our collaboration with Green Templeton College. Understanding the potential risks associated with playgrounds, we worked closely with the college’s project leaders to supply our rubber play tiles as the specification made them the ideal choice to mitigate injuries and ensure a secure environment for any children using the space.
The installation was completed in stages by the college maintenance team and college office staff:
First, the space was cleared with the bike rack being removed and the existing gravel excavated.
Then, the ground was prepared according to our installation guide to ensure the rubber tiles were provided with a high-quality sub-surface on which to be installed.
Next, the rubber play tiles were laid within three confining walls to create a seamless surface by following our installation instructions and using the included interlocking pegs to connect each tile.
Finally, play equipment was delivered and assembled to complete the area and the new safe play space could be opened for the families of the College and University.
The installation has been a huge success with staff, students and families all having benefitted from the new safe children’s play space in a convenient area. The installation of our rubber pay matting at Green Templeton College’s play area is a testament to the college’s dedication to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for its community.
