Introducing LeesonGrip 2-1

LeesonGrip 2-1 is a premium, high-performance resin with a flexible polyurethane base, designed for resin bonded surfacing. This advanced anti-skid system has been engineered for seamless installations on asphalt and concrete substrates. Its superior durability and wear performance make it the ideal choice for creating hard-wearing and anti-skid surfaces in a wide range of resin bonded applications. Due to its superior anti-skid properties and resistance to oil, diesel and petrol, a resin bond surface is highly recommended for high-traffic roads, walkways and paths.

Resin Bond Surfacing Ratios

For optimal results, approximately 1.7 kg/m² of resin is required when using a 1-3mm aggregate. If the surface has significant texture, additional resin may be necessary and a scratch coat might be needed before application. Apply around 10 kg/m² of aggregate and expect to sweep off 2-3 kg/m² to ensure the surface is fully blinded and provides the desired anti-skid properties.

Substrate Requirements:

For the successful application of LeesonGrip 2-1, the substrate of your project must meet specific conditions. The substrate should be dry to 75% relative humidity and free from any rising damp. When applying the resin to asphalt, no primer is required, making the process straightforward. However, for concrete substrates, the use of a primer is essential to ensure proper adhesion and durability. The concrete must have a minimum strength of 25 N/mm² and be free from laitance, dust and other contaminants to guarantee optimal performance and longevity of the resin surface.

LeesonGrip Resin Bond Installation Instructions:

  • Premixing: Ensure LEESONGRIP 2-1 Part A resin is evenly coloured and consistent.
  • Mixing: Combine 1 part by weight of LEESONGRIP Part B curing agent with 2.15 parts by weight of LEESONGRIP 2-1 Part A. Mix until uniform in colour.
  • Application: Apply the mixed LeesonGrip to the surface within 10 minutes (at 19°C) at a minimum rate of 1.5 kg/m², depending on surface porosity and allow it to self-level for complete coverage.
  • Aggregate Scattering: Distribute aggregate (moisture content less than 0.4%) over the resin within 5 minutes (at 19°C) at a rate of 10kg/m².
  • Excess Removal: Sweep off excess aggregate after approximately two hours.
  • Reopening: The site can be reopened to traffic after 4 hours, depending on ambient temperature or once the binder is hard to the touch.

The LeesonGrip 2-1 resin bonded surfacing system has proved its outstanding performance in a prestigious project undertaken by GB Groundworks & Constructions. Commissioned by the National Trust, the project at Wentworth Castle Gardens in Barnsley required a robust and reliable solution for their pathways and walkways. LeesonGrip 2-1 ensured a durable and anti-skid surface that meets the highest standards of safety and aesthetics. Read our latest blog post to discover the details of this outstanding project.
