What products should be used to clean tools when using this?

Xylene or white spirit can be used to clean tools used on resin bound gravel jobs. It’s always best practice to clean-as-you-go as once the resin has set it can become very difficult to remove.

What preparation needs to take place before it can be used?

Ensure the substrate is sound, clean, dry and contamination-free and suitable for the purpose. Remove all dust. Mask off areas where resin is not required using suitable tape.

BoundTex UVR is a premium quality aliphatic polyurethane aggregate binder, for use with decorative dried aggregate in resin bound gravel applications.

What is BoundTex UVR resin binder?

This is a flexible, two-part polyurethane which is easy to apply to resin bound gravel systems. It is formulated for internal and external resin bound paving systems. It is 100% recyclable making it the most environmentally friendly binder resin available in the UK. The resin is manufactured in the UK and is made from sustainable, renewable biomass material.

BoundTex UVR is manufactured to high standards, ISO 9001 and 14001. It is 100% UV stable and requires no additional catalyst, moisture metre or primer. It has been used by professional resin contractors since 2008.

Each kit consists of two components: Base (A) and Activator (B).

Catalyst

BoundTex UVR is pre-catalysed to allow contractors a minimum working time of one hour based upon the forecast temperatures.

The working time may vary depending on the colour of the surface e.g. a dark surface such as tarmac will retain more heat than a light surface. Ground temperatures will also vary in direct sunlight or cloud cover.

Day time temperatures Catalyst added
+25°C 0.25ml
20°C 1.0ml
15°C 2.0ml
10°C 3.0ml
5°C 4.0ml

Installation of BoundTex UVR

To install the resin bound binder, follow these simple steps:

Surface preparation: To install the resin binder, it is first important to prepare the surface. Ensure the substrate is sound, clean, dry and contamination-free and suitable for the purpose, and remove all dust. Mask off areas where resin is not required using suitable tape.

Mixing: On a level surface, carefully remove the container lid. Carefully pour (Part B) stored in the top of the container into (Part A) stored in the bottom. Mix the base and activator components thoroughly using a mixing drill and paddle. Mix until fully homogenous, ensuring material from the sides and base of the pail are well mixed. This should take around 1-2 minutes.

Mixing aggregate: Using a forced action mixer or similar, mix the resin with the aggregate at a ratio of 4 x 25kg bags of aggregate to one complete mix of resin. This can also be achieved by dividing the kit into smaller mixes with the use of additional catalyst.

Applying the mix: Decant the mixture into a suitable carrying container such as a wheelbarrow then onto the application area. Begin screeding the mix using a new trowel (preferably with at least one rounded end). Screed to approximately 15-18mm in depth. During the process, ensure the trowel has vegetable oil brushed on it regularly to ensure the trowel glides freely.

Closing off: Once the mixture is laid to the required depth, clean the trowel with vegetable oil and smooth one last time before adding the next mix. Always maintain a wet edge and work continuously until the surface is completed. Should additional slip resistance be required, anti-slip crushed glass can be evenly cast on to the wet resin.

Finishing: BoundTex UVR resin takes approximately four hours to cure (temperature variable) and will reach vehicle strength after 24 hours. Full chemical cure after 28 days.
