About Rainsmart Ellipse Inspection Channel Crate
The Ellipse Soakaway Crates are high quality, easy to assemble recycled plastic soakaways. The storm crates are buried beneath the earth, gravel and other permeable materials to create an underground void space, ideal for holding rainwater or surface water run-off. The crates are designed for use beneath low-intensity domestic surfaces, including small driveways and landscaped areas, these storm crates are designed to protect homes, gardens and commercial spaces against the effects of rain, storms and flooding.
The crates are easy to assemble. They can be stacked and stood side-by-side to create larger soakaway areas. During installation, it is recommended that the crates are connected using cable ties and a rubber mallet is used to connect the structure together.
What does a soakaway crate do?
The crate configuration can be used to hold water indefinitely and used as a rainwater harvesting tank or for attenuation purposes. Each crate is designed to hold up to 119 litres of water, meaning that small and large underground tanks can be created quickly and relatively easily without the need for mechanised lifting or specialist skills or tools.
Infiltration systems are used underground and use pipes to collect surface water and a permeable membrane is wrapped around each crate. The collected water is slowly released into the ground at an acceptable rate to ensure it does not overwhelm and cause surface water build up or localised flooding.
Water storage systems are installed underground and use pipes to collect as much water as possible. A non-permeable membrane is wrapped around the crates to prevent any water from escaping. The collected water can be reused to power water features, reserve in case of droughts or for watering flowers.
